Unit Clerk

Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk is responsible for transcribing physicians' orders, and performing clerical and receptionist duties for the
nursing unit. The Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining confidentiality of
patient information. The position is a major asset to the smooth and efficient operation of the nursing unit.

Employee Class: Temporary Full Time
Rates of Pay: Minimum: 20.60 per hour   Maximum: 23.72 per hour
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 and completion of a recognized Unit Clerk Course or equivalent education.
- Skills will include medical terminology, telephone and receptionist skills, computer experience and competency, experience in processing medical orders is required.
- Current Emergency Department experience required.
- Possess verbal and written fluency in English.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize.
- Must be able to cope with frequent interruptions, and work under pressure in a stressful environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel required.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills an asset.
