Medical - Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric NurseThe Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services in the context of patients
presenting by walk in; referral or via EMS, who require urgent crisis assessment in relation to acute mental health issues at the Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre. This position is clinical in nature.
Clinicians are responsible for providing mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, referrals and advocacy. Clinically focused liaison and consultation to colleagues within the health
centre and with community service providers is also required. Clinicians are required to have awareness and sensitivity to working with diverse populations. Clinicians must be able to provide service
to the inner city, hard to serve population who suffer from severe mental illness and face multiple problems in the community, including; homelessness; social isolation; marginalization and often
encounter significant barriers to accessing mental health and medical services. Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and an ability to work independently are essential. A good working knowledge of
community agencies and programs is an asset.

Rates of Pay: Minimum: 33.20 per hour Maximum: 44.16 per hour
Qualifications:
Education:
- Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Bachelor of Nursing, Masters of Nursing, Bachelor of Social Work, Masters of Social Work, Masters of Psychology.
- Must be registered with the appropriate professional association.
- Must be authorized to perform restricted activities as defined by the appropriate professional association.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years recent mental health experience, acute community experience preferred.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary team and community agencies.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Solid knowledge foundation of intervention and treatment modalities relevant to clinical disorders and psychosocial and environmental problems
- Solid knowledge foundation of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and ability to formulate an accurate provisional diagnosis
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant community resources and legislation.
- Strong mental health assessment, crisis management and counseling skills.
- High degree of creativity and flexibility as well as the ability to work independently and to engage and work with a diverse client population.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; high level of interpersonal skills.
- Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively
- Ability to work in stressful, demanding and changing conditions.
