Medical - Licensed Practical NurseThis position provides a range of support services to Aboriginal clients and their families at the Canmore Hospital and provides telephone consultation
and advice to Oilfields Hospital, Black Diamond as needed. The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison (AHL) works with clients and families to support them to feel comfortable with the culture of the hospital
and provides consultation and assistance to the health care team regarding service provision and appropriate accommodations of Aboriginal health practices and beliefs. Knowledge of and respect for
the range of cultural perspectives within the Aboriginal Community is essential. The AHL is not a primary care provider and acts in a secondary/supplementary role to enhance the care provided by
other health care professionals for Aboriginal clients and families. The AHL provides input, recommendations, support and guidance for discharge planning but is not primarily responsible for this
activity. The AHL is responsible and accountable to the public for his/her own practice according to the standards defined by their professions' college. The AHL maintains competent practice and
provides care according to their professional regulations. The AHL does not perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention.

Rates of Pay: Minimum: 27.55 per hour Maximum: 36.59 per hour
Qualifications:
- Diploma or certificate in an approved health related program in a regulated profession (e.g. Social Work, LPN).
- Registration (including provisional registration) in good standing with applicable college or eligible for registration in respective professional body.
- Previous experience in a health care setting or in a human services field outside of health care setting, and experience/knowledge of Aboriginal culture and traditions
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others
- Familiar with Aboriginal cultures and practices, particularly around health care issues
- Knowledge of problems encountered by Aboriginal people in using health care services, and of health care systems providing care to Aboriginal people
- Knowledge of health care and community services available to Aboriginal clients
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team in a collaborative manner
- Ability to be organized and self directed
- Ability to effectively problem solve
- Demonstrates good written skills and use of relevant computer software
- Knowledge of indigenous language an asset
