Medical - Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric NurseThe Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge
and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities related to chronic and acute pain assessment and management throughout the Calgary Health Region. The CNS
functions as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within the Hospital Pain Services of the Regional Pain Program providing direct and indirect service
to patients and families and provides guidance to direct care providers on the units. The balance among roles varies depending upon the needs of patients/clients and nurses, as well as the care
setting. The CNS is a member of the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic, comprehensive care. Responsibilities include developing, implementing and evaluating programs and
policies related to advanced nursing care and health systems related to chronic and acute pain assessment and management. Additionally, the role of the CNS also involves facilitating professional
practice in nursing to ensure quality of care and patient satisfaction with respect to assessment and management of acute and chronic pain. This position contributes to a CCHSA accredited adult
hospital and community program.

Rates of Pay: Minimum: 37.14 per hour Maximum: 49.84 per hour
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program is required
- 1 year experience in pain management preferred.
- Certification as required within the scope of the job.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated use of scientific theories drawn from nursing and allied healthcare professions such as psychology, physiology, as well as current research, to identify and articulate
the rationale for selecting interventions.
- Collaboration with other services to optimize patient's health status.
- Recent extensive or intensive clinical experience in pain management.
- Demonstrated change management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Demonstrated experience educating staff, patients and families in pain management.
- Demonstrated critical thinking ability.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution skills, ability to work in a team environment, establish good working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
