Medical - Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric NurseThe Postpartum Community Services (PPCS) Public Health Nurse supports and empowers individuals, families, and selected groups in accepting
responsibility for their own health throughout the postpartum period. PPCS Public Health Nursing services for Health Promotion, Prevention, Protection, Health Maintenance and Restoration. include
health assessment and screening; direct care, support, follow up and/or referral; advocacy, as well as surveillance, consultation and teaching appropriate to the family transitioning to parenthood.
The PPCS Public Health Nurse works in an independent role, with minimal supervision, to provide family centered care in client's homes, clinic and community settings as well as by telephone. The PPCS
Public Health Nurse works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health care team and community partners across the region to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and
integrated services to the client. This position also has the responsibility to participate in the education and orientation of nursing staff and students and to maintain ongoing professional
competence. The PPCS Public Health Nurse has a leadership responsibility in primary health care inclusive of nursing best practice, collection and reporting of client based data, involvement in
nursing or other health research and education. This position reports to the Manager of Postpartum Community Services.
This position will be located at North Hill Community Health Centre until it moves to East Calgary Health Centre in fall 2010.

Rates of Pay: Minimum: 32.34 per hour Maximum: 42.45 per hour
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
- Current CARNA registration required.
- Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant(IBCLC) certification preferred
- Successful Completion of the Canadian Nurses Association Certification Program in Community Health Nursing is an asset.
- Minimum 2-3 years current related Nursing experience required.
- Public Health and or Maternal Infant postpartum care experience are preferred
- Experience in teaching and community development is an asset.
- Strong assessment skills required
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and decision making skills required.
- Ability to be self directed and to exercise independent, evidence based nursing judgment required.
- Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate teamwork within a client/family centered focus required
- Organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment with high acuity clients and a varying workload required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain interdisciplinary professional working relationships and therapeutic client relationships required.
- Excellent knowledge of the English language, both written and oral required. Multi language competence is an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations required
- Effective communication skills including strong listening, non-verbal, negotiation and consensus building skills preferred
- Skill in effective conflict resolution preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching and supervisory skills an asset
- Computer literacy, knowledge and competency preferred.
- Strength and ability to carry and porter equipment and supplies to alternate sites required.
- Physically able to perform all duties in all practice settings required
- Ability to apply knowledge of ergonomics in the practice setting preferred.
- Maintains a professional image and upholds professional and ethical standards required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required
