Medical - Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse

Demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in accordance with all elements of the current Calgary Health Region job description for Registered Nurses. Is a member of
the Maternal Child health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic and comprehensive care to meet the needs of antepartum women, postpartum women, including pre and post operative
surgical care, and newborns within the context of their family. Nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation with the purpose of facilitating physical recovery and/or
promotion of health within a fast paced and dynamic teaching environment.
The Lactation Consultant advocates for breastfeeding women and infants by collaborating with other members of the health care team to ensure the promotion and support of breastfeeding in the
Maternal-Newborn unit, the NICU, Pediatrics, and other inpatient units (as appropriate). Using current research based knowledge related to breastfeeding, provides consultation to other health care
providers as well as provides care directly to patients and their families. The Lactation Consultant provides leadership in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating activities for health
care professionals and patients/families and the development of standards of care/guidelines/policies and procedures pertaining to breastfeeding and infant feeding. The Lactation Consultant adheres
to the ILCA Standards of Practice and the IBCLC Code of Ethics.

Rates of Pay: Minimum: 32.34 per hour   Maximum: 42.45 per hour
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of a recognized school of nursing and currently registered with CARNA
- Certification as a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant required
- Current CPR
- Current NRP certification
- Degree in nursing preferred or a diploma in nursing including experience as a Lactation Consultant will be considered
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years recent experience working with the Maternal-Newborn population
- Previous experience as a Lactation Consultant is essential
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is able to maintain good interpersonal and working relationships with all members of the health team
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be self-motivated, and work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated change management skills, leadership skills, critical thinking and oral/written communication skill

$42.45/per hour
