The Director, Palliative and End of Life (PC/EOL) Care is a leadership role in the Integrated Seniors Health Portfolio and reports directly to the
Executive Director, Integrated Seniors Health, Calgary Zone.  This position is fully responsible and accountable for leading an operational team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of five
specific program areas:
- Direct operations of Palliative Care Consult Services which operate in Acute Care, Home Care, Rural, Long Term Care and Supported Living
- Direct operation of Residential Hospice Clinical Contract Management and integration of 6 contracted facilities
- Direct operation of Central Access referral service
- Direct operation of one AHS operated Hospice at the PLC Hospital
- Direct operation of the "Advance Care Planning: Goals of Care Designations" team
- Direct operation of the Grief Support program.
These programs and services are operated with the support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services.  The Director, PC/EOL Care works in collaboration with the Medical
Director, PC/EOL Care to ensure integration and alignment of Physician resources and planning.  This role will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders in
order to provide operational leadership to and oversee all related programs and services. This position establishes and maintains positive relationships with key local, provincial and national
representatives and health care stakeholders including government departments and officials.
The Director, PC/EOL Care provides direct support and expert counsel to the Executive Director, Integrated Seniors Health, Calgary Zone and the related Senior Management Team on all aspects of
Palliative and End of Life Care and works collaboratively with the AHS Provincial Palliative and End of Life work and associated colleagues.  The Director, PC/EOL Care is accountable for service or
branch objectives regarding implementation, operationalization, management and monitoring of these services and quality measurement programs in the most effective, leading manner.

Rates of Pay: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
Qualifications:
- A Masters Degree required.  Health care professional certification/ designation required
- A minimum of 5 years in a palliative/ hospice / end leadership role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity (health care experience an asset).
- The incumbent will demonstrate a clear pattern of professional and personal development.  Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered
In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas:
- Progressive senior leadership experience in palliative/ end of life care environment, including five years experience in a management role in the same.
- Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, and project and program management
- Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning, modeling concepts, and program and project management theories, principles and practices
- Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications
- Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services
- Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
- Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues
- Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex and sensitive issues
- Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector
- Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and builds solid relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees and other partner
