Written by Roxanne Batson

While the corporate world may no longer be a man’s game, the sad truth is that businesswomen are still paid less than men for the same positions, and fewer women than men fill the top positions. Further, when a woman is assertive and works hard to get ahead, it can be misinterpreted whereas this behavior is admired and rewarded in men.

10 Questions to Help You Find Your Dream Career

May 7th, 2008 by Officejobs.com

Written by Kelly Honeybrook

Some people have always known what their dream career is but some haven’t quite worked it out. Dissatisfaction with your career cannot always be fixed with a promotion or a pay rise. Sometimes we actually don’t ‘fit’ our chosen occupation. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to be a landscaper but have wound up as an accountant. Perhaps you would love to be a nanny, but found yourself working as a receptionist. There’s that saying about the square peg and the round hole. No matter how nice you make the round hole appear, it’s still round and you’re still square – not literally.

By taking some time to answer the following questions, you may start to see a picture form around a particular theme that may turn out to be your dream career.

7 Secrets of a Highly Effective Resume Cover Letter

May 6th, 2008 by Officejobs.com

Written by Jimmy Sweeney

Just like the late, great Rodney Dangerfield, the “humble” cover letter gets no respect.

Job-seekers spend so much time and energy on their resumes they’ve got nothing left to offer their poor, neglected cover letters.

Big, BIG mistake!

It is the well-written cover letter not the resume that can single-handedly land you more job interviews. The cover letter is your one chance to really “market” yourself to an employer using proven marketing strategies rarely found in the typical cover letter.

Who You Know Still Matters Most

May 6th, 2008 by steve

How many people of influence do you know? And how many of those would you consider a “friend” or close contact? In 14 years as CEO for Officejobs.com, everything has changed: Cell phones were the size of bricks. No one had heard of the “internet” before. And to get the best choice of jobs, you had to “know people”. Wait…that last one still goes. Things have changed, so much technology has evolved into our working lives, and yet the one constant remains: It’s WHO you know that opens doors of opportunity.

At every job level, there is no better way to a brighter opportunity than to expand your network. The country’s top CEO’s call upon their network to open doors, to gain access to people and companies they don’t already know, so that they are always at the cutting edge of growth, challenge, and profit. I do it, my father does it, my clients do it. Do you? Is your network always expanding? If so, you’re part of an elite group of thinkers who understand the importance, even the necessity of meeting new people to position yourself for a brighter future.

As CEO of an established online recruitment firm in Canada, I find myself in the enviable position of having access to thousands of people I wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach. From CEO’s of the largest international organizations, to specialized experts, to the everyday job seeker looking for a new change in careers, I invite them all to join my network. I’m experimenting now with Facebook, inviting everyone I meet to join me there as a “friend”. I’m keenly interested to see if we can work together to leverage the power of this social networking tool to help you get were you are trying to go.

I’m never too busy to meet someone, so don’t hesitate to send me a friend request. I can always use more friends, and if you can use a new “CEO” friend, I’ll be waiting to hear from you. Let’s see if my friend list will be of value to you, and if you will be of value to my other friends. One thing is for sure: in business, you can never have too many friends. So, welcome to my network.
